PRESS RELEASE - 23rd January 2014
The Guernsey Choral and Orchestral Society is seeking to appoint a new Musical Director and Choral Conductor with effect from 1 September, 2014
Helen Grand is stepping down after eight very happy years in this position. During this period she has conducted more than forty major works, conducted the choir in St Malo Cathedral, taken a large contingent of the choir to sing in Biberach, organised a combined choirs? Charity Concert and was a major organiser of the very successful Guernsey Sings for the 65th Liberation Celebrations in 2010.
Mrs Grand is leaving the position with great sadness, feeling that, due to other commitments, she cannot give the choir the time it requires and deserves to enable it to continue developing its work in new directions in the future, while maintaining the highest of performance standards.
Applications are invited from interested persons who should have a strong background in both choral singing and conducting and orchestral playing/conducting. They should have the commitment and availability to take weekly rehearsals on Tuesday evenings during school term times. They must be prepared to decide on the choral repertoire and to plan the programme for concerts and must have the ability to maintain the current high standard of performance of the Society.
The GCOS is part of the College of Further Education Adult Education programme and remuneration for the position is based on the Lecturer salary scale.
Applications should be made in writing and sent, along with a full musical cv, to the Chairman of the Society, Barbara Minta, to arrive by 7 February, 2014.
