Newsletter – August 2016

Dear GCOS members

I hope this finds you refreshed and looking forward to an exciting year of music-making.

The first choir rehearsal will take place at St Sampson’s High School on 13th September at 7.30. The first half hour will be devoted to ‘catch up’ on news with all our friends plus the collection of music for the term while enjoying a glass of wine or soft drink. Singing rehearsal will commence at 8.00.

Alan’s choice of Choir Music for the Christmas Concerts is the Magnificat in A by Charles Stanford, Benedicite by Vaughan Williams, Christmas Day by Gustav Holst and 2 choruses from the Choral Classics Book, Hear My Prayer and Insanae Et Vanae, together with choir only carols, orchestral pieces, audience participation carols and contributions from the GCOS children’s choir, which was so well received last year. Please let Penny Dravers know if you require copies of any of the music (tel. 249946 or email pennydravers@gmail.com) Penny has a copy of the Magnificat which she will email out to everyone.

If you know of any children in Years 5, 6, 7, 8 who would be interested in participating in the children’s choir please contact Alan and he will include them on his mailing list. asgough@gmail.com

Spring Concert – provisional ideas for the Concert repertoire are – Stainer’s Crucifixion and Elgar’s Sea Pictures, both of which are new orchestrated and/or choral versions.
